HCLFoundation and HCL GUVI have completed an AI skilling programme that trained 1,070 engineering students from six government engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu in artificial intelligence and Python programming.

The four-week programme concluded with a felicitation ceremony held on July 17 at IIT Madras Research Park, Chennai. It aimed to equip students with industry-relevant AI skills and improve their employability through practical training and placement support.

Delivered through a 60-hour hybrid model, the programme combined 30 hours of instructor-led online learning with 30 hours of classroom-based practical sessions. Students received training in AI fundamentals, Python programming, practical assignments, mini projects, assessments and technical interview preparation.

The initiative was implemented at government engineering colleges in Tiruchirappalli, Karaikudi, Vellore, Bodinayakkanur, Tirunelveli and Salem.

According to the organisers, more than 700 of the 1,070 participants took the placement eligibility assessment, with a majority now receiving interview preparation and access to employment opportunities.

HCLFoundation Director Dr Nidhi Pundhir said the initiative aims to improve access to industry-relevant skills and prepare students for the digital economy. HCL GUVI Founder and CEO Arun Prakash M said the programme emphasised hands-on learning to help students solve real-world problems using AI.

Apoorv Johari, Head – Enterprise Business, HCL GUVI, said the programme was designed to support students’ transition from engineering education to careers in artificial intelligence through project-based learning, interview preparation and placement assistance.
