IIT-Kharagpur and the Tripura government have signed an agreement to establish a Centre for Advanced Learning, Research and Innovation (CALRI) to strengthen higher education, research and employment opportunities in the state.
A Letter of Intent was signed on October 29 in the presence of IIT-Kharagpur Director Suman Chakraborty and Tripura Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman.
The proposed centre will serve as a multidisciplinary platform for research in emerging technologies, digital education, faculty and student development, innovation, startup incubation and technology-driven solutions, under the academic guidance and technical mentorship of IIT-Kharagpur.
Under the partnership, IIT-Kharagpur will mentor Tripura Technical University in curriculum modernisation, faculty development, research infrastructure, laboratory planning, quality assurance, accreditation and institutional governance.
The collaboration will also focus on strengthening government degree colleges through industry-aligned skill development, vocational education, practical training, certification courses and entrepreneurship initiatives. It will promote multidisciplinary and outcome-based education, digital academic resources and the integration of emerging technologies into teaching and learning.
The initiative will also explore research and enterprise opportunities in sectors relevant to Tripura, including bamboo, natural rubber, tea, agriculture and natural gas.
IIT-Kharagpur Director Suman Chakraborty said the partnership reflected the institute’s commitment to extending academic expertise, research and technological innovation beyond its campus. He said the objective was to help young people move from being job seekers to job creators through innovation and entrepreneurship.
Tripura Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman said the collaboration would help improve the quality and relevance of higher education in the state, strengthen institutional capabilities and create more employment opportunities for students.
