Odisha CM announces hike in remuneration of temporary teachers

Naveen Patnaik

The Odisha government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, announced a significant development in the education sector. As per a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), temporary teachers, commonly known as ‘Gana Sikshyaks,’ who have not passed the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET), will receive an increased remuneration.

Under the revised scheme, these teachers will now be entitled to Rs 10,000 per month, up from the current Rs 7,000 per month, providing a substantial boost to 1,121 Gana Sikshyaks.

Additionally, Chief Minister Patnaik declared the regularization of services for Gana Sikshyaks who have successfully passed the OTET. This regularization will elevate them to the position of assistant teachers, benefiting a total of 1,472 individuals.

Moreover, assistant teachers who have cleared the OTET and were not receiving annual increments will now be entitled to yearly increments, a positive change that will impact 9,520 teachers.

In total, these progressive measures are set to benefit 12,113 Gana Sikshyaks across the state, marking a significant stride in the improvement of educational conditions in Odisha.
