Health authorities have ordered the closure of St Joseph’s Higher Secondary School in Kalpetta, Wayanad, for one week after approximately 100 students developed fever and vomiting.
Affected students received medical treatment across multiple hospitals in the area.
An inspection by the health department, led by Kalpetta General Hospital Resident Medical Officer Dr Shyam alongside Health Inspector P. A. Navas and Junior Health Inspectors Suresh Kumar and Bibin Varghese, identified that the school’s water tank and on-site well had not been disinfected.
Officials directed the administration to suspend classes to contain the spread of the illness and to execute cleaning and disinfection procedures across the premises, water storage tanks, and wells.
