Honeywell has partnered with Indian Institute of Technology Bombay to establish the IITB–Honeywell Centre of Excellence for Future Skills & Innovation at the Powai campus, aiming to train over 100,000 students in sustainability-related fields by 2030.
The centre, fully funded by the Honeywell Hometown Solutions India Foundation, will provide advanced lab infrastructure, curriculum development, and research grants. During its two-month pilot phase, the program will build core infrastructure and train 250 students, before expanding to around 20,000 students annually through certificate programs and hands-on projects.
The initiative focuses on five learning tracks: Sustainability Reporting, Sustainable Finance, Energy Security, Sustainability Infrastructure, and Policy Advocacy, addressing India’s growing demand for skilled professionals in the green economy.
The program will run through 2030, requiring students to complete 40 hours of training delivered by IIT Bombay faculty and industry experts, with mentorship from Honeywell employees. It also forms part of Honeywell India’s ‘Saksham’ skilling initiative, which trains STEM students nationwide in AI, cybersecurity, and sustainability.
“Skilling our workforce is central to building a future-ready and sustainable India. Our collaboration with IIT Bombay reinforces Honeywell’s commitment to developing high-quality talent across sustainability fields, as India accelerates growth through its AI-powered digital economy,” said Ashish Modi, President, India and Asia Pacific, Honeywell. “Honeywell’s new CoE aligns with this digital transformation and will equip students with the right industrial skills to support long-term economic growth with sustainability at the core.”
