Canadian International School (CIS) has completed 30 years since its establishment in 1996, marking three decades in the city’s international education sector. The school has been part of the early expansion of international curricula in Bengaluru, with developments in academic programmes, technology integration and sustainability initiatives.
Among its milestones, CIS was the first school in Bengaluru to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), the first 1:1 iPad school in South India, and the first school in India to operate entirely on solar power. It was also recognised as India’s first Apple Distinguished School by Apple Inc. for technology integration in education.
The school established the Bangalore Association of International Schools Activities and Sports Council (BAASC), supporting interschool athletics and activities. CIS currently hosts a community representing over 40 nationalities, with student-led initiatives such as the DEIJB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Belonging) club promoting inclusivity.
To mark the occasion, the campus hosted events involving students and faculty, reflecting on the institution’s development.
Shweta Sastri, Managing Director, said the milestone reflects the contribution of the school community and ongoing efforts to improve curriculum and sustainability practices.
Head of School Dr Ted Mockrish said the institution continues to build on its past while adapting to changing needs, with focus areas including sustainability, technology and experiential learning.
Recent community initiatives include gardening and composting projects, and a student-led campaign that raised over ₹26 lakh to support children in rural Karnataka with essential kits.
CIS said it will continue to focus on student-centred learning and community engagement as it moves forward.
