Aequs and Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad have established an advanced research and development ecosystem for materials science and manufacturing innovation at the IIT-D campus in Karnataka.
The facility will support advanced material characterisation, failure analysis, manufacturing process simulation and optimisation, aimed at strengthening industry-academia collaboration in precision manufacturing.
The initiative will also form the basis for a proposed “IIT Dharwad–Aequs Research and Development Center” focused on applied research, innovation and industrial applications.
Aravind Melligeri, Executive Chairman and CEO of Aequs Ltd., said the partnership reflects the company’s long-term commitment to strengthening India’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem through investment in research, innovation and skill development. He added that the collaboration would enhance IIT Dharwad’s applied research capabilities and industry engagement while supporting Aequs in delivering products to customers.
Prof. Venkappayya R. Desai, Director of IIT Dharwad, said the facility marks an important step in strengthening industry-aligned research at the institute. He said the collaboration would provide students and researchers with exposure to manufacturing challenges and contribute to industrial innovation in materials science and advanced manufacturing.
According to the organisations, the centre will help improve product quality, reliability and manufacturing efficiency by enabling detailed analysis of material behaviour and failure mechanisms in high-precision industries.
The facility is also conducting training programmes for engineers, researchers and students in advanced analysis of metals and non-metals. Aequs will continue to support the centre through technical assessments, equipment monitoring and maintenance oversight.
