India and Indonesia have signed agreements across health, education and other sectors, including one to establish an overseas campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore in Indonesia.
Announcing the agreements during a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the IIM Bangalore campus will be established at the Singhasari Special Economic Zone in East Java. He said the campus is expected to serve students from across the ASEAN region.
The agreement marks another step in the international expansion of India’s management institutes, following the launch of IIM Ahmedabad’s Dubai campus last year.
In the health sector, India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation and Indonesia’s National Agency of Drug and Food Control signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the regulation of medical products. The agreement aims to facilitate knowledge exchange on regulatory standards and improve market access for Indian medical products in Indonesia.
The two countries also signed an implementation agreement on health workforce collaboration, covering fellowship programmes for health professionals and the mobility of qualified healthcare workers.
The agreements were among nearly a dozen pacts signed during Modi’s visit to Indonesia, covering areas including defence, critical minerals and maritime security. Indonesia is the first stop of the Prime Minister’s three-nation tour, which also includes Australia and New Zealand.
