Australia’s Flinders University will establish an international campus in Bengaluru, with operations set to begin in early 2027 after receiving a Letter of Intent from the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The announcement was made during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Australia, where Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed the agreement as part of the outcomes of the bilateral visit.
The Bengaluru campus will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Business, Computer Science and Information Technology, along with a Master of Information Technology and an MBA (Future Business). The university said the programmes are designed to strengthen industry engagement and create pathways into Bengaluru’s technology sector.
The campus will also provide exchange opportunities for Australian students and support collaboration between students from India and Australia through academic and industry partnerships.
Flinders University said the initiative aligns with India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which allows leading international universities to establish campuses in the country.
Flinders University Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling said the UGC approval marked an important step in the university’s international expansion and would strengthen education, research and industry collaboration between Australia and India.
The university already has partnerships with institutions across India, including engineering programmes in Kerala, artificial intelligence research collaborations in Gujarat, and a strategic partnership with the University of Hyderabad focused on digital healthcare.
Further details on admissions and the Bengaluru campus will be announced later this year.
