Atypical Advantage, India’s largest livelihood platform for persons with disabilities, has launched Atypical Academy, a fully accessible learning platform created by and for persons with disabilities. The initiative aims to place accessibility at the centre of education, enabling students with visual, hearing, locomotor and neurodiverse conditions to participate in inclusive learning environments.
The organisation said that despite supporting thousands of persons with disabilities in securing employment, gaps in accessible education remain a major barrier. Atypical Academy has been developed to address this by offering equal access to academic preparation and skill-development programmes.
The Academy is introducing accessible coaching for CUET and IIT-JEE, English literacy courses for Deaf learners, MS Office training for visually impaired students, business communication modules for persons with locomotor disabilities, and UI/UX courses for neurodiverse learners. The courses include screen-reader compatibility, sign language interpretation, captioning and mentorship from educators with disabilities.
Founder Vineet Saraiwala said, “We cannot address the livelihoods challenge for persons with disabilities without first addressing educational inequality. There is no global learning platform built specifically for persons with disabilities. Our Academy aims to fill that space by creating accessible education pathways that open up real opportunities.”
Although 5% of seats in higher education institutions such as IITs, IIMs and central universities are reserved for persons with disabilities, many remain unfilled due to limited access to suitable coaching. Atypical Academy seeks to bridge this gap by improving exam preparedness and access to professional skills training.
The organisation expects around 1,000 students to graduate from the Academy next year. Graduates will be connected to Atypical Advantage’s network of more than 450 corporates.
To support learners financially, the Academy has also launched a “Fund a Child” initiative allowing individuals, corporates and philanthropists to sponsor course fees, learning aids and mentorship.
Admissions and scholarship applications are now open at atypicalacademy.in
