A 37-year-old paying guest (PG) accommodation owner was allegedly beaten to death by two college students following a dispute over the use of water at his property in Bengaluru’s Ramamurthy Nagar area. The victim, identified as Madhav Matle, owned and managed the Laxmi Narasimha PG near Kasturinagar Main Road. The incident occurred on Monday evening and has shocked locals.
According to police, the altercation began when Matle objected to two students washing their legs using tap water inside the building premises. The students were identified as Rakesh (21), a final-year B.Com student, and Don Brite Son (20), a first-year BBA student, both residents of the PG. What started as a verbal disagreement soon escalated into a heated confrontation between the owner and the students.
Investigators said the argument turned violent when a cricket bat became involved during the clash. The students allegedly overpowered Matle and assaulted him repeatedly with the bat, leaving him critically injured. Bystanders rushed to the scene and alerted emergency services, following which the victim was taken to a nearby hospital. However, despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries.
Police have arrested both accused students and registered a murder case. Officials are currently examining witness accounts and other evidence to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal attack. The incident has once again highlighted how seemingly minor disagreements can spiral into tragic acts of violence, raising concerns about conflict management and safety within shared accommodation facilities.
