The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday said it had successfully thwarted a 3.8 million-packet denial-of-service (DoS) attack on its website amid a surge in applications for verification and re-evaluation of Class 12 board examination answer books.
In an update posted on X, the board said more than 56,000 applications had been received through its verification and re-evaluation portal by 9.30 pm. CBSE said its technical teams were monitoring the platform and implementing refinements to improve performance.
The board said payment gateway services provided by State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda and Indian Bank were available on the portal, and students were not required to hold accounts with any of the participating banks to complete payments.
According to the banks, thousands of transactions have been processed successfully through their respective payment gateways since the portal was launched.
The portal, which opened on June 2 after a delay, allows students who have obtained scanned copies of their evaluated answer books to apply for verification of issues and re-evaluation of answers. The facility will remain available until midnight on June 6.
The development follows concerns raised by students and parents regarding the on-screen marking system used for Class 12 board examinations, as well as complaints about technical glitches, payment failures and access issues during the re-evaluation process.
CBSE said students can report issues including missing pages, missing supplementary sheets, blurred scans and other discrepancies in answer books. Applications must be submitted online through the CBSE website using Aadhaar-based authentication, and fees are payable through the digital payment system.
The board reiterated that only one application each for verification and re-evaluation will be permitted and advised students to ensure all details are correct before final submission.
Earlier, CBSE had reported that malicious actors attempted to disrupt the portal through cyberattacks, including a denial-of-service attack that generated 1.5 million hits within two minutes and more than one lakh attempts at unauthorised file access. The board said additional measures had since been introduced to strengthen security and improve user experience.
