The Ministry of Education on Wednesday said it has no proposal to create an Indian Education Service for appointments to the posts of Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor and Registrar in higher education institutions.
Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar conveyed the position in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. He said higher education institutions are statutory autonomous bodies established under central Acts and are governed by their respective provisions.
According to the ministry, appointments to key posts in these institutions are made transparently in line with their Acts, statutes, ordinances, regulations or recruitment rules.
Majumdar said the ministry, in collaboration with Delhi University, has launched CU-Chayan, a unified recruitment portal aimed at standardising and improving transparency in faculty recruitment across central universities. A separate portal for recruiting Vice Chancellors in central universities has also been launched, he added.
The Ministry of Education clarified that it is not considering an Indian Education Service and highlighted new recruitment portals to improve transparency in central university appointments.
