A private school in Mayur Vihar, East Delhi, has struck off the names of four Class 12 students after their parents refused to pay a revised fee, according to the families.
The parents said they declined to pay the increased fee and subsequently received a notice from the school stating that the students’ names had been removed from the rolls under provisions of the Delhi School Education Rules, 1973.
In the notice dated 7 March, the school informed parents that the students’ names would be struck off with effect from 9 March if the outstanding dues were not cleared.
The school cited Rule 35 of the Delhi School Education Rules, 1973, which permits institutions to remove a student’s name in cases of non-payment of fees.
The notice also stated that unaided recognised private schools do not require prior approval from the Director of Education before fixing fees for an academic year, and referred to court judgments supporting this position.
Parents said the students had recently passed their Class 11 examinations and had progressed to Class 12.
There was no immediate response from the school on the matter.
