Eduleader Speaks: Dr. Anil Rana, Director at MIT, Manipal Academy of Higher Education

In this episode of Eduleader Speaks, Dr. Anil Rana, director at MIT, Manipal Academy of Higher Education spoke to EducationWorld’s special correspondent Reshma Ravishanker, sharing his insights on budgetary allocation for education, AI integration and trends in the field of engineering.

Dr. Anil Rana is an academic leader and former Commander in the engineering branch of the Indian Navy with over three decades experience in industry and academia. He holds a PhD in Reliability Engineering from IIT Bombay and an M.Tech from IIT Delhi. He has held several senior academic positions, including Associate Dean (Research) and Professor at Fiji National University; Dean (Academics) at Symbiosis Skills and Open University, Pune; and Dean at Bhartiya Skill Development University, Jaipur. Since February 2021, he has also been serving as the Vice Chancellor of Oriental University, Indore.

"The larger issue is not political but intellectual. No serious scholar argues that Indian Knowledge Systems begin and end with Sanskrit; rather, Sanskrit served as a connective layer linking diverse philosophical, spiritual and regional traditions. While historical exclusions must be acknowledged, the answer is wider access to knowledge, not rejection of inherited traditions. India’s deeper challenge is the rupture colonial education inflicted on its knowledge culture and the tendency to separate Sanskrit from the living traditions around it. The IKS movement is not a triumphalist celebration of the past but a serious effort to rediscover, debate and revive India’s knowledge traditions, despite the inevitable exaggerations and political appropriations that accompany such a process."
