The Lawrence School, Sanawar has announced the appointment of Ruchi Pradhan Datta as the new headmaster, effective May 1, 2026. The appointment follows a detailed and careful selection process undertaken by the Board of Governors.
Datta’s appointment is a historic milestone for the institution as she becomes the first woman to hold this distinguished position in its over 175 years’ illustrious history. She will succeed the current headmaster Himmat Singh Dhillon who will be moving on to new endeavours, leaving behind a legacy of steady progress and commitment to the school’s ethos.
Datta brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role. An alumna of Lucknow’s prestigious La Martiniere Girls’ College and Isabella Thoburn College, she is a seasoned education leader with over two and a half decades of experience across some of India’s most respected institutions, including leadership roles at The Bishop’s School, Pune; Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun; The Lawrence School, Lovedale; Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls Public School, Jodhpur and most recently, The Asian School, Dehradun, where she served as the principal for the last six years. She brings with her strong academic expertise, administrative depth and a deep commitment to student wellbeing and holistic development. Her leadership style is defined by strong communication skills, critical thinking and clarity of expression.
Her impressive academic qualifications include degrees in English, education, science and journalism. She also holds a distinction in Kathak, an Honours Diploma in Systems Management, and a gold medal in journalism. Her multifaceted background as a teacher, journalist and personality development trainer enriches her approach to education.
