GITAM (Deemed to be University) has appointed Prof. M. V. Kartikeyan Machavaram as Pro Vice Chancellor of its Bengaluru campus.
Prof. Kartikeyan has more than two decades of experience in academic and institutional leadership. Before joining GITAM, he worked at IIITDM Kancheepuram and held leadership positions at IIT Roorkee, IIT Tirupati and IIIT Sri City.
His research covers millimetre-wave and terahertz technologies, radio-frequency systems, computational electromagnetics, and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in engineering design. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, the Indian National Academy of Engineering and the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He has also received the Hildegard Maier Research Fellowship and the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship in Germany.
In his new role, Prof. Kartikeyan will work with GITAM’s academic and leadership teams to develop the teaching and research ecosystem at the Bengaluru campus. His priorities will include interdisciplinary research, collaboration with industry and academic institutions, and support for faculty and students working in emerging areas.
“Prof. Kartikeyan brings together strong academic credentials, research experience and a deep understanding of institution building. His experience will be valuable in shaping the campus’s academic direction,” said Dr M. Sribharat, President of GITAM.
Over the past year, faculty members at the Bengaluru campus published 317 research papers, including 157 in Scopus-indexed Q1 and Q2 journals. The campus also secured six externally funded research projects worth ₹2.54 crore and filed 10 patents.
GITAM Bengaluru has established 14 research laboratories over the past two years with an investment of ₹5.65 crore. These include facilities for electric vehicles, extended reality, drones, networking technologies and scientific research.
