Google has launched a new AI Professional Certificate on Coursera, aimed at helping professionals apply artificial intelligence tools in their day-to-day work.

The programme is designed to move learners beyond foundational knowledge and support the practical and responsible use of AI across roles and industries. Each enrollee will receive three months of complimentary access to Google AI Pro, enabling hands-on practice with Google’s advanced AI models, including Gemini, NotebookLM and AI Studio.

The launch comes amid growing demand for AI skills. According to Bain & Company, India could see 2.3 million AI jobs by 2027, with an estimated 1.2 million skilled workers available, leaving a projected gap of more than one million.

Google said it analysed hundreds of job descriptions and worked with employers to develop the certificate, focusing on transferable capabilities. The programme covers the strategic use of AI in research, planning, communication, content creation, data analysis and workflow automation.

Lisa Gevelber, Founder of Grow with Google, said the certificate aims to translate AI capabilities into economic opportunity for businesses and workers. She added that the three-month access to Google AI Pro will allow learners to build practical experience with advanced AI models.

Greg Hart, Chief Executive Officer of Coursera, said access to relevant skills is essential in an AI-driven economy. He said the certificate will help learners apply AI in their everyday work while gaining practical experience through Google AI Pro.

The programme can be completed in around ten hours and includes seven short courses and a capstone project. On completion, learners will have a portfolio demonstrating their ability to apply AI tools responsibly in workplace contexts.
