Heritage Institute of Technology (HITK), Kolkata, hosted HackHeritage 4.0, a 36-hour internal hackathon and campus-level qualifier for the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2026, on September 12–13.
Around 2,000 students participated in the hackathon, with their solutions evaluated by 30 jury members from industry and academia. The event required students to develop prototypes based on problem statements from SIH 2026.
The hackathon was organised through HITK’s Institution’s Innovation Council, with support from the Ministry of Education, AICTE, MoE’s Innovation Cell, SIH 2026 and the Institute’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC-HITK).
The event was led by Prof. Joydeb Hazra, Faculty Coordinator and Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for SIH 2026 at HITK.
HackHeritage 4.0 was held in the academic year marking HITK’s 25th anniversary, with the institute observing the milestone under the theme “Nurturing Excellence”.
Prof. Basab Chaudhuri said the hackathon provided students a platform to develop solutions to the problem statements listed under SIH 2026.
Pradip Agarwal, CEO, Heritage Group of Institutions, Kolkata, said HackHeritage gives students a simulation of the Smart India Hackathon. He added that HITK was the national winner in the previous year’s SIH and expects to repeat the performance this year.
The qualifying teams will now proceed towards the national-level Smart India Hackathon 2026.
