The Indian Navy has opened recruitment for Agniveer Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR), Matric Recruit (MR) and SSR Medical Assistant posts under the Agnipath Scheme for the 01/2027 and 02/2027 training batches.
The notification was published on March 10 on the Navy’s recruitment portal. The application window will open on March 14 and close on April 6, 2026. Candidates can apply through the official website — Join Indian Navy recruitment portal. The application fee is ₹550 plus 18 per cent GST, payable online through net banking, UPI or credit/debit card. A correction window will be available from April 10 to April 11.
Eligibility
Unmarried male and female candidates can apply for the SSR and MR posts, while the SSR Medical Assistant post is open only to unmarried male candidates.
For the 01/2027 batch, candidates must be born between December 1, 2004 and May 31, 2009. For the 02/2027 batch, the eligible birth date range is May 1, 2005 to October 31, 2009.
For the SSR post, candidates must have passed Class 10 and Class 12 with Mathematics and Physics from a recognised board with at least 50 per cent aggregate marks. A three-year engineering diploma or a two-year vocational course with Physics and Mathematics is also accepted.
For the MR post, candidates must have passed Class 10 with at least 50 per cent aggregate marks. Applicants for the SSR Medical Assistant post must have passed Class 10 and Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology with at least 50 per cent aggregate and a minimum of 40 per cent in each subject.
Selection process
The recruitment process will take place in two stages. Stage 1 will be the Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET) 2026, a computer-based test scheduled for May 2026. Candidates who qualify will be shortlisted state-wise for Stage 2, which includes a physical fitness test, written examination and medical examination.
Candidates holding an NCC ‘C’ certificate or sponsor certificate who upload verified documents during the application process will be exempted from the INET and will be called directly for Stage 2.
Training and pay
Selected candidates will undergo basic training at INS Chilka. Training for the 01/2027 batch is expected to begin in December 2026, while the 02/2027 batch is scheduled to start in May 2027.
Under the Agnipath scheme, Agniveers receive a monthly package starting at ₹30,000 in the first year, increasing during the four-year tenure. On completion of service, they receive a tax-free Seva Nidhi payout of around ₹11.71 lakh and are covered by a non-contributory life insurance policy of ₹48 lakh.
For the SSR Medical Assistant post, trainees will receive a stipend of ₹14,600 during the training period. After training, they will be placed in Level 3 of the Defence Pay Matrix with a pay scale of ₹21,700 to ₹69,100, along with Military Service Pay of ₹5,200 per month and applicable Dearness Allowance.
Service tenure
Agniveers will be inducted under the provisions of the Navy Act, 1957 for a fixed tenure of four years. They will serve in a separate designation within the Navy as the most junior rank. The Navy is not obligated to extend service beyond the four-year period.
Agniveers will be entitled to 30 days of annual leave, along with medical leave based on the recommendation of an authorised medical authority. Candidates have been advised to read the full notification before submitting their applications.
