Students in Maharashtra and other parts of India can look forward to new world-class higher education opportunities at Navi Mumbai EduCity, an international educational hub being developed in the Mumbai Metropolitan Area, with support from CIDCO.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed concerned departments to ensure that land is made available promptly to international universities who have shown interest in setting up campuses in Maharashtra following reforms in higher education.
Fadnavis issued the orders at a review meeting held recently at Sahyadri State Guest House on the proposed new urban development known as Third Mumbai (or Mumbai 3.0 ) comprising a SportsCity, Innovation City, Educity and Medicity near the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA).
Kharghar in Navi Mumbai already has a superspeciality independent hospital treating patients from India and abroad.
The EduCity will be set up in Kundevahal, Panvel, and the Innovation City near the airport, with the Tata Group.
The University of Aberdeen (Scotland), the University of York (UK), the University of Western Australia (Australia), the Illinois Institute of Technology (USA), and the Istituto Europeo di Design (Italy have expressed interest in setting up campuses in the Navi Mumbai EduCity.
These varsities will offer courses on STEM, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Fashion Design, and Advanced Engineering.
Senior officials from the Higher and Technical Education Department and CIDCO were present at the meeting.
They included additional chief secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department Venu Gopal Reddy, CIDCO managing director Vijay Singhal, additional chief secretary to the chief minister Lokesh Chandra, and principal secretary Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi.
Fadnavis also directed CIDCO officials to provide land and power supply on a priority basis to global firms, particularly from West Asia, interested in investing in data centre projects across Maharashtra.
The official consensus is that the new projects will create top quality education opportunities across sectors, increase the number of startups, and boost research.
