In an embarrassing incident, a professor at a medical college in Karnataka was allegedly beaten by students after he proposed to a girl student over the microphone, claiming she had previously made advances toward him.
The episode, believed to have occurred inside a classroom, shows the faculty member proposing and even promising chocolates to classmates to mark the occasion.
Reports indicate the incident took place at Siddhartha Medical College in T. Beguru village of Nelamangala taluk, triggering tension and subsequent violence on campus. The lecturer has been identified as Abdul. According to initial information, he approached the student during class hours, offered her a chocolate, and proposed. The act was strongly opposed by the student, who allegedly struck him with a slipper, after which the situation escalated rapidly. Other students gathered, confronted the lecturer, and reportedly chased and assaulted him near a parked vehicle within the campus.
As tensions intensified, Abdul managed to flee while being attacked. The incident has also led to allegations of misconduct, with claims of inappropriate behaviour toward the student. It occurred under the jurisdiction of the Nelamangala Rural Police Station, and authorities are expected to investigate both the alleged harassment and the assault.
A social media post by the handle HateDetectors shared a video of the incident, drawing sharp reactions, with one user commenting that positions of authority demand responsibility and condemning the act as “absolutely shameless.”
“The college, which is associated with Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara, witnessed a chaotic scene as the incident unfolded, drawing attention to safety and conduct within educational institutions. Further investigation is likely to determine the full sequence of events and any legal action that may follow,” a social media post on X by the handle HateDetectors has posted accompanied by the video.
Responding to this, a social media user reacted, “This is exactly why positions of power come with responsibility. You’re standing in front of students as a mentor, not auditioning for some cheap proposal scene. Absolutely shameless behavior.”
