The Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations for Class 10 students began across Kerala on March 5. General Education Minister V Sivankutty wished students appearing for the examinations and encouraged them to approach the tests with confidence. He said examinations should be viewed as an opportunity to present the knowledge gained during years of study.
Along with the SSLC examinations, the Higher Secondary Plus One examinations also began on Thursday, while the Plus Two examinations are scheduled to start on Friday.
According to official figures, 4,17,497 students are appearing for the SSLC examination this year at 3,047 centres across the state. In addition, 633 students from Lakshadweep have registered for the examination.
Another 633 candidates in the Gulf region have also registered for the SSLC examination, but their examinations have been postponed due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
The SSLC examinations will conclude on March 30. The Education Department has scheduled valuation camps for answer scripts from April 7 to April 28, with results expected in May.
In a Facebook post, Sivankutty said students are taking the examinations after studying revised textbooks introduced under the New Curriculum Framework 2023, implemented after a gap of 11 years. He added that the evaluation process aims to assess skills such as critical thinking, analytical ability and creativity.
The minister said there are no changes in the examination structure this year and reiterated that the Class 10 examination is a qualifying test for higher studies. He added that the government has ensured Plus One seats for all students in Kerala.
He also advised students to maintain proper sleep and food habits during the examination period and to enter the examination hall with a calm mind.
Meanwhile, 4,11,025 students have registered for the Plus One examinations and 4,52,437 students for the Plus Two examinations, which will conclude on March 28.
The SSLC results are expected to be declared by the third week of May 2026. Online applications for Plus One admission for the 2026–27 academic year will begin the day after the publication of the SSLC results.
