The Mumbai City Collectorate along with Maharashtra’s Women and Child Development Department and Child Welfare Committee, organised a programme at the Behramji Jijibhai Home for Children in Matunga recently to felicitate underprivileged students who achieved top honours in the Class 10 and 12 board exams despite challenging circumstances.
Students from the Children’s Home, Observation Home and Open Shelter Home were felicitated at the ‘Meritorious Honour and Recognition Ceremony 2026’ which was attended by Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairman Mahadev Sawant, Mumbai City District Women and Child Development Officer Shobha Shelar, Child Welfare Committee members Shyam Mistry, Aruna Katkar, Mugdha Dandekar, and Usha Gaikwad; Vinodbhai Shah of Ashiyana Foundation, Shankar Mughalkhod of Grace Foundation, Priya Shende of Hamara Foundation, Prakash Rajan of All Is Well Foundation, B.J. Home institute superintendent Anagha Malvi, and district probation officer m Mahesh Patil, among others.
CWC chairman Sawant praised the students for overcoming adverse conditions to achieve success and urged them to hold on to big dreams for their future education and career paths.
Women and child development officer Shobha Shelar wished the students a bright future and asserted that the achievements of those who persevered with limited resources are unparalleled. Such awards serve to strengthen their confidence, she said.
Other guests unanimously observed that the successful students will be an inspiration to others.
A film on the subject of human trafficking was screened on the occasion and the successful students duly honored for their academic success with medals and certificates of appreciation.
The superintendents, teachers, staff and student mentors of the institutions were also commended for their significant contribution to the success of the students.
