Union minister Jitendra Singh on Monday said that the Narendra Modi-led government places strong emphasis on promoting regional languages, describing the present period as a highly favourable time for Dogri to revive and strengthen its legacy.
He stressed the need to connect with Gen Z Dogra children and recommended using digital platforms and modern technologies to popularise the Dogri language among younger generations.
Addressing the gathering at Dogri Manyata Diwas, Singh underlined that linguistic pride is the foundation for preserving any language and its heritage. He said that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, Dogri has a valuable opportunity to flourish and be passed on to future generations, becoming part of India’s broader growth narrative. He added that the government remains committed to supporting all regional languages.
While noting that government support plays a crucial role in sustaining languages, Singh emphasised that active participation from civil society is equally vital. He urged people to take pride in Dogri language, culture and traditions, pointing out that language is not just a means of communication but a key element of cultural identity.
The minister also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to promote cultural initiatives nationwide, particularly those centred on regional languages, and encouraged citizens to actively engage with these initiatives to preserve their heritage. He concluded by saying that while the government focuses on welfare, society must also take responsibility, calling on local communities, civil society and stakeholders to work collectively to strengthen cultural roots.
