The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has issued an advisory detailing a phased rollout of revised school textbooks and syllabus changes under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
In a statement released from New Delhi, NCERT said textbooks for Grades 1 to 8 have been developed and are available in print and digital formats. The books align with competency-based learning goals under the revised curriculum framework.
Textbooks for Grade 9 are in development and are scheduled for introduction in the 2026–27 academic year. Draft syllabi have been uploaded to the official NCERT website for reference.
Students in Grades 10 and 11 will continue using existing textbooks in 2026–27. Revised editions for these classes will be introduced in the 2027–28 academic year.
NCERT has advised teachers to strengthen prerequisite learning before implementing the new syllabus to support student readiness. Schools have been asked to plan instruction to prevent learning gaps during the transition.
The council also called on stakeholders to follow the implementation timeline and ensure continuity in teaching and learning as changes are introduced in stages. The revisions form part of wider curriculum reforms under NEP 2020.
