More than 150 children fell ill after consuming a mid-day meal at a government middle school in Baluaha village, Saharsa district, Bihar, officials said on Thursday.
According to District Magistrate Deepesh Kumar, 115 students are undergoing treatment at the Sadar Hospital, while around 50 others have been admitted to the Mahishi Public Health Centre. The children were initially treated at a primary health centre before being referred for further care.
Doctors said the condition of the students has improved and they remain under observation. Some children reported mild fever, along with symptoms of stomach ache and vomiting.
Of the 545 students present at the school, around 200 had consumed the meal before complaints began.
Family members of some students alleged that a snake was found in the container used to store cooked pulses. Authorities have collected food samples from the school, and further details will depend on laboratory test results, the district administration said.
