95.03 percent of the students who wrote the Tamil Nadu class XII board exam passed this year. The results were released on Friday.
Releasing the results, the school education department officials here said that Erode district registered the highest pass percentage of 98.87, followed by Sivaganga district with 98.05 percent. With 95.43 per cent of pass, Chennai figured in the 20th position.
The girls outshone the boys this year as well, by securing a pass percentage of 97. Boys could secure only 93.19 percent.
Of the 7,536 higher secondary schools, the officials said that a total of 2,639 private schools and 489 government schools have secured 100 percent pass.
Accordingly, of 7,91,654 students who took the exams, as many as 7,53,694 have secured passing marks in the exams. The overall pass percentage of the Science stream was 96.90, while the pass percentage among Commerce group students was 92.67.
The school education department has already decided to do away with the long-standing practice of ranking students at the State and district levels on the basis of the aggregate of marks secured. The department authorities had also already instructed the private schools not to advertise students’ marks to secure new admissions.
A total of 6,945 students have secured 100 per cent marks in Computer Science, followed by Computer Application, in which as many as 2,099 secured centum. The lowest number of 18 students got a centum in the Zoology subject.
The official further said a total of 238 jail inmates also secured pass marks in the exams. The pass percentage of private candidates was 41.53.
