PW invited parents of Bengaluru to share their insights on character traits they believe are most important for their children

“The character traits I believe are most important for my daughter Janvi D. (class III) are kindness, honesty, respect, responsibility, and perseverance. Kindness will help her care for others and build meaningful relationships. Honesty will teach her to be truthful and earn the trust of others. Respect will encourage her to value people, rules, and diverse opinions. Responsibility will help her discharge her duties and learn from her actions. Perseverance will give her the strength to overcome challenges and never give up. I also believe curiosity and gratitude are important because they encourage children to keep learning and appreciate what they have. By developing these qualities from youngest age, children can grow into confident, compassionate, and responsible adults” — Sneha Dushyanth, Transys Enterprises
“I believe my daughter Aarna (class IV) learns as much from our actions as from our words. As parents, we should model the values we hope to see in our children. I want Aarna to grow into a courageous, independent, responsible, kind, empathetic, and resilient individual. I hope she will face future challenges with confidence, takes responsibility for her choices, stands up for what is right, and expresses herself honestly. I wish for her to build meaningful friendships, respect elders and teachers, care for younger ones, and value her self-respect. I am hopeful she will do acts of kindness, pursue her passions with dedication, and remain true to herself. Above all, I want Aarna to become a compassionate, confident, and strong person of character” — Naina Danapur, homemaker
“Above all, I want my son Darshneel AC (Pre-KG) to grow into a kind and compassionate human being. I believe kindness and empathy are the foundations of strong character, that will help him understand and treat others with respect. I also hope he remains curious, always eager to ask questions and learn, as curiosity nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and confidence. Another value I want him to embrace is gratitude. I wish for him to appreciate the blessings in his life, remain humble, and value every opportunity he receives. If Darshneel grows up to be kind, respectful, curious, and grateful, I will consider that to be my greatest achievement as a parent. These values, more than any success, will shape his future and define his character — Vijaya KHM, US tax manager, PwC
“The qualities I value most for my daughter Indira (class II) are honesty, kindness, respect, responsibility, and patience. Honesty will help her build trust, develop integrity, and be truthful. Kindness will encourage compassion, empathy, and consideration for others, allowing her to form meaningful relationships. Respect will teach her to value herself, appreciate others, and accept diverse perspectives. Responsibility will help her become dependable by taking ownership for her actions, keeping commitments, and making thoughtful decisions. Patience will enable her to face challenges calmly, manage frustration, and persevere through obstacles. Together, these qualities will help Indira grow into a confident, caring, and responsible adult” — Varija Kowlgi, Karnataka Bank, Bengaluru
