Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet has announced the launch of its first branch campus in India, to be located in Gurugram and scheduled to open in August 2026, in partnership with GEDU Global Education.
Founded in 1573 by Royal Charter from Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet has a history spanning more than 450 years. The Gurugram campus will extend the school’s educational model to India, with a curriculum focused on academic depth, intellectual discipline and holistic development.
The new campus will draw on the ethos of the founding school while responding to the local context in Gurugram. It will offer academic and co-curricular programmes, alongside facilities including sports infrastructure, a swimming pool and specialist creative and performing arts spaces.
Caroline Pendleton-Nash, Chief Executive Officer of Queen Elizabeth’s Global Schools, said the Gurugram campus marked a significant milestone for the organisation, highlighting the importance of K–12 education in preparing students graduating in 2047 to contribute to India’s long-term development goals. She added that the partnership with GEDU reflects a shared commitment to building educational capacity in India.
GEDU has also announced plans for a second Queen Elizabeth’s School campus in 2027–28 and an additional investment of £150–£200 million over the next three years across India’s K–12 and higher education sectors.
Neil Enright, Headmaster of Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet, said the expansion would allow the school to offer its educational approach to students in India while supporting future collaboration between campuses. He noted the potential to build a global network of students and alumni.
Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet was recently named The Sunday Times State Secondary School of the Year and received national recognition for academic performance at GCSE and A-level.
Alison Barrett MBE, Country Director India at the British Council, said the initiative would strengthen UK–India educational links and align with the UK–India Vision 2035. Alba Smeriglio, Deputy High Commissioner at the British Deputy High Commission Chandigarh, described the opening as a milestone in UK–India education ties.
Details of the leadership team for the Gurugram campus are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Further information is available at www.qegurugram.com.
