Schools and colleges across Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Palghar will remain closed on Monday following continued heavy rainfall and weather warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced the closure of all government, private and civic-run educational institutions in Mumbai after the IMD issued an orange alert for the city, forecasting heavy rain and gusty winds. Government and private offices will remain open, while residents have been advised to travel only if necessary.
In Pune district, the administration declared a holiday for all schools after the IMD issued a red alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, according to District Collector Jitendra Dudi. Similar advisories have been issued for educational institutions in Thane and Palghar.
The University of Mumbai has also postponed all examinations scheduled for July 6 due to the weather warning and concerns over students’ safety. The revised examination schedule will be announced on the university’s official website.
Mumbai and neighbouring areas have experienced sustained rainfall over the past several days, leading to waterlogging and treefall incidents. Since June 30, at least three people, including a schoolboy, have died in rain-related incidents.
