Sightsavers India and Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri (TBZ) have partnered to expand access to education for children with visual impairment in government schools across Alwar district, Rajasthan.

Under the eight-month project, TBZ will support Sightsavers India’s Inclusive Education Programme, which will directly benefit 95 children with visual impairment, including those with blindness and low vision.

The project will provide assistive devices, low-vision devices, ICT-based learning support, accessible learning resources, Braille training and skill-development interventions. It will also strengthen support systems around children through training for nine Social Animators, parents and family members.

The initiative will build on Sightsavers India’s existing work in Alwar and include fresh and refresher training through the Block Resource Centre. It will also work with local stakeholders to strengthen capacity for inclusive education.

A key component will be the Plus Curriculum, which provides children with visual impairment with additional skills to access education. This will be supported by assistive technology, ICT-based learning, low-vision support and individualised educational interventions.

RN Mohanty, CEO, Sightsavers India, said the partnership would help extend assistive technology, learning resources and skill development to more children with visual impairment.

Binaisha Zaveri, Whole-time Director, Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri Limited, said the initiative would provide children with the tools and support needed to learn alongside their peers, while also involving parents, Social Animators and local schools.

The project is part of Sightsavers India’s broader effort to support access to quality inclusive education for children with disabilities up to the age of 18.
