Overview

The Sagar School (TSS), Alwar, Rajasthan, was founded in 2000 and is a co-educational English-medium boarding school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, and Cambridge Assessment International Education (IGCSE), UK. Located just two hours from New Delhi’s IGI Airport, it offers schooling from Class V to Class XII with a diverse and inclusive student community drawn from across India and abroad.

The school was founded by the late Dr. Vidya Sagar — a Barrister from Lincoln’s Inn and a Doctor of Law from the Free University, Berlin. After his admission to the Indian Bar in 1952, Dr. Sagar earned a reputation as one of the country’s most formidable legal minds, taking over the practice of Remfry & Son in 1973 (renamed Remfry & Sagar in 1991) and steering it to become the face of Intellectual Property Law in India. His passion for developing young talent found its truest expression in The Sagar School, which he nurtured relentlessly.

Ms Rosemary Sagar took over as Chairperson of The Sagar School and Sagar Shiksha Sansthan, an educational non-profit initiative, in March 2011. An MBA from Columbia University with a long career in Investment Management, she has previously served on the International Advisory Board of NYSE Euronext and the Advisory Boards of Comex and the Polish Private Equity Fund. Under her leadership, the school continues to advance Dr. Sagar’s vision of cultivating future-ready individuals equipped to lead with knowledge, compassion, and integrity.

The school’s mission is to achieve global standards of educational excellence while shaping future world citizens who lead with knowledge, character, discipline, respect, and a commitment to making a positive difference in society.

Campus

The 160-acre campus has been meticulously designed and built using locally sourced quartz and sandstone, with eco-conscious architecture that blends seamlessly with the verdant landscape. The school has 21 ICT-enabled classrooms that support interactive and technology-integrated instruction.

Laboratory facilities include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Mathematics labs, and an Observatory Laboratory equipped with a Celestron Cassegrain 14-inch reflecting telescope — a research-grade instrument that enables students to record, collate and analyse the dynamic paths and periodic movements of celestial bodies. Language, Psychology and Robotics laboratories are currently under construction.

The Knowledge Resource Centre, the school’s library, is digitally enhanced and houses both contemporary and rare scholarly and literary works that encourage independent inquiry. Sports facilities include professional cricket and football fields, world-class basketball, squash and badminton courts, well-carpeted cycling tracks, and exclusive facilities for wall climbing and horse riding.

Committed to sustainable living, the campus terrain is engineered to support water-harvesting throughout the year, a vast network of solar panels powers the campus, and the staff travel the 160-acre estate by emission-free bicycles. The school provides hostel accommodation across seven hostels for 96 students.

Academics

The Sagar School follows the CBSE and Cambridge IGCSE curricula from Class V to Class XII, with an average of 120 students on roll, 40 teaching staff and a 1:8 teacher-student ratio that allows for personalised, learner-centred instruction.

Pedagogy at TSS is rooted in STEAM — Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics — combined with experiential and interdisciplinary learning. Students observe, question, form and test hypotheses through activity-based, research-based and think-tank classes in the science labs and observatory. Mathematics is enriched through Vedic Maths, Olympiads and a dedicated Mathematics Lab. Lessons are augmented by audio-visual resources, simulations, TED Talks, and the school’s GyanSagar online learner profile portal, which supports differentiated instruction and real-time tracking of student progress.

Innovative strategies such as the flipped classroom, student-led teaching, Think–Pair–Share and Brain–Book–Buddy are paired with assessment practices like open-book tests, peer assessments and student-designed question papers — shifting evaluation from rote learning to application, interpretation and reasoning. Beyond the classroom, nature walks, campus explorations, educational trips and field visits to science cities, heritage sites and geographical landmarks help students see academic concepts come alive in their surroundings.

The school is an active member of Round Square, American Field Service (AFS), the International Award for Young People (IAYP), and Spic Macay, with regular participation in MUNs, IPSC activities, FIT India Games, and zonal, district and national sports events. International student exchanges include long-standing partnerships with Canford School (UK), Lycée Albert Thomas (France), and schools in Japan, alongside regional partnerships with Sunbeam School, Varanasi and Government Middle School, Tharruk Shachukul Monastery, Ladakh.

Teachers undergo seven days of offline training annually through the CBSE and ten days of online professional development. Co-curricular life is enriched by annual leadership programmes, in-house debates, alumni interactions, one-to-one career counselling, and visits to esteemed universities.
