The Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research (WeSchool), in collaboration with the Chinese Consulate in Mumbai, hosted the China–India BRICS Dialogue & Chinese Film Screening.
Held under the theme “Bridges Built by Light, Mutual Learning Between Civilisations”, the event brought together students, academics, diplomats and cultural stakeholders to discuss the role of cinema and cultural exchange in India-China relations.
The screening of Nobody / Little Monsters of Langlang Mountain provided an opportunity for participants to engage with Chinese storytelling and cultural perspectives.
Qin Jie, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Mumbai, interacted with students and academics and spoke about BRICS, BRICS Plus and India-China cooperation. He also highlighted people-to-people exchanges, including direct flights, university engagements, sister-city initiatives, business interactions and cultural programmes.
Prof. Dr Pankaj Ramesh Natu, Director of WeSchool, said cultural exchanges, cinema, student interactions and traditional arts can support mutual understanding. He also identified technology, education, pharmaceuticals, tourism and supply chains as areas with scope for bilateral cooperation.
The dialogue covered three pillars of BRICS cooperation — political and security cooperation, economic and financial partnership, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. The participation of students and academics highlighted the role of youth engagement in fostering cross-cultural understanding.
With India set to host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi in 2026, the event highlighted the role of cultural and academic engagement alongside economic and diplomatic dialogue between India and China.
