Students at Canadian International School (CIS) Bengaluru have raised more than ₹27 lakh through a student-led crowdfunding initiative to support children in rural Karnataka.
Conducted in partnership with the Greensole Foundation, the two-week campaign funded essential back-to-school kits for underprivileged children, benefiting more than 2,800 students across the state.
The kits included footwear, school bags and mats aimed at supporting children’s educational needs. Students led the fundraising effort by reaching out to friends, family members and community networks through calls, messages and posters, with many meeting or exceeding their individual fundraising targets.
The Greensole Foundation facilitated the distribution of the kits to children from low-income backgrounds who often lack access to basic educational resources.
School officials said the initiative also provided students with opportunities to develop communication, advocacy and community engagement skills while contributing to a social cause.
Andrew Nicholson, Middle School Principal at Canadian International School, said the campaign helped students strengthen communication and advocacy skills while encouraging them to engage with issues affecting disadvantaged communities.
According to the school, the initiative highlighted the role young people can play in supporting social causes and creating positive impact through collective action.
