Ms Somya Sahu, a student of B.Sc. Neurosciences (Hons./Hons. with Research) at Amity University Uttar Pradesh, has been named a “Gold Tier Winner”, securing first rank at the Bharat YUVAi Hackathon 2026 held during the AI Impact Summit. She also received a Certificate of Excellence and a Letter of Commendation.
Her project, “Pehla Grad Mentor Line”, is a WhatsApp-based platform designed to support first-generation students by connecting them with near-peer mentors for guidance on academic and career decisions. The platform focuses on providing access to information, enabling mentorship and supporting informed decision-making.
The initiative uses WhatsApp to improve accessibility across socio-economic groups and facilitates networking, mentorship and learning opportunities. It is intended for school and college students, first-generation learners, young professionals and individuals seeking to explore new career paths.
Congratulating the student, Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor of the university, said the institution continues to support research and innovation among students and noted that the project received a top evaluation score at the summit.
Ms Sahu said the platform was developed to address the lack of guidance and exposure faced by first-generation students. She added that despite limited coding experience, she worked towards building the solution and aims for it to support students in making informed choices.
