The Bihar government will dismiss more than 3,000 government school teachers accused of securing appointments using fake degrees and forged educational certificates, Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwary has said.
The decision follows a Vigilance Bureau investigation into teacher recruitment conducted between 2006 and 2015, which found irregularities involving fake educational institutions and forged academic documents used during the recruitment process.
According to the minister, the education department has been directed to initiate dismissal proceedings against the teachers identified in the investigation. Several FIRs have already been registered and the accused have been named in criminal cases.
Tiwary said disciplinary action would continue after the dismissals, adding that the inquiry into the recruitment process had been ordered by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during his earlier tenure.
Officials said the education department will also recover salaries and honorariums paid to the teachers, along with applicable interest.
The investigation also found that some teachers had resigned before disciplinary proceedings began. Officials said action would also be taken against those individuals.
