A physical education trainer at a residential school near Yelahanka in Bengaluru has been booked on charges of allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old Class VI student, leading to his death on the school premises on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place at Sterling English Residential School in Kadayarappanahalli village, Baglur. Based on a complaint filed by the student’s father, the city police registered a case against the school’s physical education trainer, Narayan, under Section 101 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to murder.
Sterling English Residential School is a residential educational institution located in Kadayarappanahalli village, Baglur, near Yelahanka, Bengaluru. The school provides academic education along with residential facilities for students from different age groups.
The boy’s father alleged that the teacher assaulted his son with an iron rod and forcefully twisted his neck, causing fatal injuries. The allegations led to protests by the student’s parents and relatives on the school campus on Wednesday, with several family members demanding action against those responsible.
The child’s father, a resident of Subedarpalya, said the school authorities informed him around 6 am that his son had fallen ill and had been shifted to a nearby hospital. However, upon reaching the hospital, the family found that the boy had already died.
“My son was admitted to this school when he was in Class V. The school claims he collapsed while jogging, but we suspect something happened inside the campus,” the father said.
The family has claimed that another student had informed the family that the boy was beaten with an iron rod inside the hostel. The family accused the school authorities of attempting to conceal the circumstances surrounding the death and alleged that the police were shielding the accused teacher.
A senior police officer said the school management had stated that the student collapsed while running for around 10 metres. The management also informed police that the boy had existing health issues. Officials said the exact cause of death would be confirmed after receiving the post-mortem report.
The investigating team has issued a notice to the physical education trainer, asking him to appear for questioning. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the school premises to gather more details about the incident.
