The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the state government, city police, and the Greater Bengaluru Authority in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) concerning the functioning of a private school in a residential locality of Rajajinagar.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice CM Poonacha was hearing the petition filed by the Rajajinagar 5th Block Residents’ Welfare Association against National Public School. The court has posted the matter for further consideration on July 2.
The petition raises multiple concerns against NPS Rajajinagar alleging that its activities are causing significant inconvenience to residents in the area. According to the petitioners, the school frequently uses a public address system throughout the day, resulting in noise disturbance, particularly affecting those working from home.
The residents’ association has also alleged that the use of loudspeakers creates a persistent nuisance in the neighbourhood. Additionally, the petition claims that the school has failed to comply with norms requiring priority in admissions for children residing in the locality.
Traffic congestion is another major issue highlighted in the PIL. The petitioners stated that school buses are often parked outside the campus, leading to severe congestion on surrounding roads. They further alleged that the school regularly conducts events and parent-teacher meetings without prior notice to residents, during which the influx of vehicles—including buses, tempo travellers, and private cars—causes disruptions and blocks access to homes.
The association also informed the court that residents have been reporting traffic violations through the Public Eye app over the past four months, including instances of parking on footpaths and in no-parking zones. However, they claimed that no effective action has been taken by the authorities so far.
The petition seeks directions to authorities to address these grievances and to ensure that the concerns raised by residents are duly considered and acted upon.
