National College of Ireland (NCI) has announced scholarships worth INR 75,00,000 for need- and merit-based Indian postgraduate students as part of its 75th anniversary initiatives. The announcement was made at a commemorative event in New Delhi focused on strengthening academic mobility, skills development and education collaboration between India and Ireland.
The event was attended by Kevin Kelly, Ambassador of Ireland to India, along with higher education leaders and institutional partners. Discussions centred on the rising interest among Indian students in postgraduate programmes that combine academic study with graduate employability pathways.
Professor Gina Quinn, President of NCI, said institutions must support international students both academically and in building sustainable careers. She said India’s focus on skills and industry relevance aligns with NCI’s mission as a state-funded institution to deliver education linked to employment outcomes, adding that the scholarship initiative reflects its commitment to widening access for Indian students.
Established in 1951, NCI is a not-for-profit, state-funded institution supported by Ireland’s Higher Education Authority. The college said it has developed programmes designed to enhance employability across sectors.
The scholarship scheme will support Indian students enrolling in selected postgraduate programmes in business, computing and psychology. The awards will be offered as tuition fee reductions.
Robert Ward, Director of Marketing and International Development at NCI, said the institution prioritises programmes aligned with employer needs and that Indian students benefit from industry-integrated curricula and academic support systems. He said the initiative will assist students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.
Ireland permits eligible non-EU graduates to remain in the country for up to two years after completing a Level 9 qualification under its post-study work framework.
NCI currently serves more than 6,500 students and maintains links with employers across Ireland’s finance and technology sectors. The New Delhi event concluded with alumni engagement and discussions on employability-led education and India–Ireland academic partnerships.
