OET has partnered with the International Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology Council (IIMSTC) to help prepare healthcare professionals in India for careers overseas.
The initiative is expected to reach more than 5,000 healthcare institutions and one million learners annually.
Under a memorandum of understanding, the organisations will conduct educational programmes, workshops, faculty engagement initiatives and knowledge-sharing activities. These programmes will focus on profession-specific communication skills and awareness of international healthcare communication standards.
The partnership will combine OET’s experience in healthcare English assessment with IIMSTC’s network of healthcare institutions, professionals and more than 100 universities in India and overseas.
“Effective communication is fundamental to quality healthcare delivery,” said Amit Upadhyay, Regional Director for South Asia at OET. “Through this partnership, we hope to empower more healthcare professionals with the communication skills needed to succeed in healthcare environments around the world.”
OET assesses English communication skills across 12 healthcare professions. It is accepted by more than 550 organisations and is used by healthcare professionals from over 100 countries for registration, employment and study.
Dr Sreedhar Saraswathy, Chairman of IIMSTC, said the partnership supported the council’s aim of improving professional readiness and increasing awareness of international career opportunities among healthcare graduates.
The collaboration will also address communication in domestic healthcare settings, where interaction with international patients, institutions and cross-border partners is increasing. The programmes will cover communication linked to patient safety, teamwork and quality of care.
OET and IIMSTC will begin rolling out the joint initiatives across IIMSTC’s partner institutions in the coming months.
