The Karnataka government has announced a set of eight education guarantees aimed at strengthening the state’s public school system and boosting enrolment over the next few years. The initiative, shared by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Department of School Education, is expected to be implemented in phases over a three-year period.
Key measures include ensuring one teacher per class up to Class 5 and subject-specific teachers from Class 6 onwards. All schools will offer an optional English-medium stream, with teachers receiving appropriate training. The plan also provides free transport for Karnataka Public School students. In addition, computer teachers will be appointed in all KPSs within three years, along with dedicated instructors for arts, music, and physical education
To enhance access, free transport facilities will be provided to students of Karnataka Public Schools. The plan also includes the appointment of computer teachers in all such schools within three years, along with specialised instructors for arts, music, and physical education to support holistic learning.
In a move to reduce the administrative burden on educators, the government has promised to recruit separate staff for non-teaching duties, allowing teachers to focus entirely on academics. Student performance will be monitored through a lesson-based assessment system, and parent-teacher meetings will be held every two months to track progress.
The guarantees further include the introduction of skill-based education from Grade 6 and special coaching for competitive examinations. The government has also indicated improvements in infrastructure, including digital learning facilities and better school amenities.
Setting an ambitious target, the state aims to increase enrolment in government schools to 50 lakh students within five years. The initiative is part of a broader vision to position Karnataka as having one of the strongest public school systems in the country.
