The case came to light on Sunday night when the young woman approached the police and filed a formal complaint. Acting swiftly, authorities detained the accused and subsequently placed him under arrest. He was produced before a court on Monday, which remanded him to police custody until Wednesday for further investigation.
Police officials stated that multiple charges have been invoked, including those related to rape and provisions under the Information Technology Act for capturing and storing obscene content, as well as sending unwelcome and inappropriate messages. Investigators suspect that there may be more victims, as preliminary information suggests that another young woman could have experienced a similar ordeal.
The accused’s mobile phone has been seized and sent for forensic analysis. Initial examination indicates that no explicit photos or videos have been circulated on social media platforms, though authorities believe such material may have been deleted. Police are continuing to verify the claims made by the complainant and are exploring all possible angles in the case.
Meanwhile, the incident has triggered strong reactions in the village. Local residents have called for a bandh in protest, leading to the closure of shops and businesses, with the shutdown currently underway.
