Renault India has partnered with IIT Kanpur to strengthen vehicle research and development in India.
Under the agreement, Renault India will use IIT Kanpur’s National Wind Tunnel Facility for aerodynamic and wind-noise testing of passenger vehicles.
The collaboration will combine Renault’s engineering expertise with IIT Kanpur’s testing infrastructure to support vehicle development in areas such as efficiency, safety and performance.
According to Renault India, access to the facility will allow the company to validate aerodynamic characteristics and wind-noise performance against engineering targets and support product optimisation.
Dr Vikraman V, Chief of Engineering, Renault Group India, said the partnership would strengthen Renault’s engineering capabilities in India and support the development of future-ready vehicles.
Prof. Dr. Alakesh Chandra Mandal of IIT Kanpur’s Department of Aerospace Engineering said the collaboration would extend the National Wind Tunnel Facility’s expertise beyond aerospace applications to automotive research and development.
The National Wind Tunnel Facility has a continuous closed-jet test section measuring 3.0 m by 2.25 m and can conduct aerodynamic evaluations at speeds between 80 km/h and 280 km/h. IIT Kanpur said the facility is being upgraded to support testing at speeds above 400 km/h.
The memorandum of understanding also outlines the framework for commercial engagement, intellectual property management and confidentiality between the two organisations.
