The Minister of Social Justice, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Aseem Arun, visited Dehradun to study the functioning of boarding schools and review institutional practices followed by residential schools.
The visit was undertaken as part of an initiative by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, which has approached the Boarding Schools’ Association of India (BSAI) to document models of boarding school education. Uttar Pradesh currently operates 125 residential schools under a government scheme and is seeking BSAI’s support to develop training frameworks, operational guidelines, leadership programmes and quality benchmarks.
The Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Director (Education), along with Principals and senior teachers from J P Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalayas, Uttar Pradesh.
On January 14, the delegation visited The Doon School, Welham Girls’ School, Welham Boys’ School, Unison World School and Kasiga School. On January 15, visits were held at Tula’s International School and SelaQui International School. The delegation reviewed governance systems, academic structures, student welfare practices, co-curricular programmes and residential management.
The visit also included a meeting with members of the BSAI Board, where discussions focused on collaboration between government-run residential schools and established boarding institutions. Areas covered included capacity building, leadership training, governance frameworks and student welfare.
The engagement marked progress towards collaboration between the Government of Uttar Pradesh and BSAI, with discussions aimed at developing structured training initiatives and institutional partnerships for residential schools.
